About Us

Message from Marion Chief of Police

Dear Community Member,
As you may have heard, the Marion Police Department has started a new community relations based pilot-program called, MPD K-9 Cares. MPD K-9 Cares is a unique and innovative approach to building both partnerships and relationships between officers and citizens with the use of K-9 Therapy dogs.

The MPD K-9 Cares program features select and specially trained therapy dogs and officers that are trained to provide victims with an outlet from mental, physical or psychological effects of experienced trauma.

Therapy dogs can be used to help make the legal process easier for children, victims of violence or abuse, as well as providing support in crisis situations. These dogs serve a therapeutic role and can calm stressful situations while providing unconditional love and support to people in need on some of their hardest days. A true goal for any police officer.
The Marion Police Department is focused on bettering not just our community but the world beyond our small town. We can only begin to meet those goals with the help and assistance of business and community members like yourself.
We need your support or help with donations or resources for our Therapy K-9 dogs. While the program is just getting started with business sponsorships, food donations, and T-shirt sales, we still have a lot to accomplish.

Would you consider donating to help us achieve our mission?
We would be happy to provide you with more information about how you or your company can help MPD K-9 Cares. Please contact Officer Jason Plichta at (618) 993-2124,ext.1280 or at plichta@marionpolicedept.com if you have any questions.
We greatly appreciate your donation, and it will be used to continue to build and grow the MPD K-9 Cares program. If you wish to contribute, please direct your donations to MPD K-9 CARES or contact Officer Jason Plichta listed above for additional ways to help.
Together we can help show our community that, “Some Therapists Have Paws!”
Sincerely
Chief David Fitts
