MPD K-9 Cares Offering Comfort and Cheer to People in Need
As you may have heard, the Marion Police Department has started a new community relations based pilot-program called, MPD K-9 Cares. MPD K-9 Cares is a unique and innovative approach to building both partnerships and relationships between officers and citizens with the use of K-9 Therapy dogs.
The Marion Police Department’s newest unit is selling t-shirts to raise money to benefit the sustainability, and hopeful growth, of the unit. The MPD K-9 CARES Community Therapy Dog Unit was recently formed within the department, with the goals of the unit revolving around mental health and community engagement. This will be achieved through the following: going on calls for service, especially when children are involved; helping victims and witnesses of traumatic events with the immediate and sometimes long-term stressors that come with the incident; helping first responders deal with calls they go through; and engaging the community through school visits, assisted care facility visits, along with meeting the citizens at other locations.
Thank you for your contribution to making the City of Marion that much better for everyone!
